Together with Solidaridad and the Indian farmers’ cooperative Chetna, the GSRD Foundation supports the growth of organic cotton in Orissa, India.

By supporting the growth of organic cotton we strive to decrease the negative effects of cotton cultivation on the environment, reduce poverty and improve the living conditions of cotton farmers in India. Chetna produces and trades cotton in a fair and sustainable way and is Fair Trade certified.

The Chetna project involves training and educating organic cotton farmers and assisting them to switch to organic farming. The project also aids in the set up of producer organizations and helps producers to obtain certification and gain market access. The project also focuses on improving labor conditions in sewing workshops.
