Structural Support for Performing Arts School

Partner: Kattaikkuttu Sangam
Country: India
Start date: 01/04/2014
Project type: Education & Entrepreneurship
Project reach: 51 direct beneficiaries

The GSRD Foundation provides structural support to Kattaikkuttu Sangam, a residential school for underprivileged rural children and youth, to help train students in performing arts, in general, and traditional Kattaikkuttu music theatre, in particular. The Kattaikkuttu School provides a regular school curriculum as well.

Children who attend the Kattaikkuttu School are not obligated to become an artist. With the skills they learn at the school they are also able to find work elsewhere more easily. Theatre is beneficial in teaching students to be critical, to be confident, to communicate, to work in a team, and to speak English. After completion of the program students can be employed as a performer, follow a vocational training, go to university, or join the apprentice program of the Kattaikkuttu School. The apprentice program enables talented graduate students, who aspire to become a professional actor, to develop their entrepreneurial skills.
