Cooperative Infrastructure for the Provision of Safe Foods in Hanoi

Partner: The Asia Foundation
Country: Vietnam
Start date: 01/07/2014
Project type: Entrepreneurship
Project reach: 302 direct beneficiaries

The Asia Foundation and the GSRD Foundation support the expansion of economic opportunities for low-income farmers and their households in newly urban and peri-urban areas of Hanoi in Vietnam.

The objective of the program is to strengthen the ability of low-income farmers and their households to cultivate and market safe produce from the remaining agricultural lands. The Asia Foundation works actively to expand the market channels and looks for institutional buyers of agricultural products (like schools and offices). The program also facilitates the development of small business groups of small-scale farmers.

The Asia Foundation offers technical training on both green produce cultivation practices and on business and marketing practices. The long term goal of the program is to develop the project as a social enterprise by amalgamating a network of cooperatives into a single brand.

The Asia Foundation builds innovative methods of cooperation between diverse actors, and strives to increase public education and appreciation of the economic, social, and environmental benefits of green farming in urban areas.
